Welcome to the Bachelor of Science in Public Health

Welcome from Dr. Britta Larsen, BSPH Director

Video Transcript:

Hi, I'm Dr. Britta Larsen. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) at UC San Diego. As part of the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, our mission is to improve public health and eliminate health inequities by cultivating new generations of diverse public health professionals, advancing scientific discovery, and collaborating with diverse partners to develop community-led health solutions in our region and globally.

The COVID-19 pandemic that has severely impacted our lives and the lives of our loved ones, is a clear example of the importance of having well-designed public health policies and the need to train the next generation of public health leaders. The pandemic has also evidenced the disproportionate burden among our communities of color and the need to address racial and ethnic health disparities in our country.

In the BPSH you will have the opportunity to engage with leading public health researchers and practitioners while learning about public health approaches to understanding, preventing, and addressing health inequities and complex public health problems through classroom curriculum and hands-on learning through research and field-based experiences.

The BSPH faculty and staff are committed to your professional development and personal growth. We hope your time in the BSPH is fulfilling and that you are challenged in new and exciting ways. We look forward to having you in our program and we are thankful for the innovative ideas and intellectual energy you bring. Once again, welcome to the BSPH and we look forward to seeing you soon.
