John P. Pierce, PhD

Professor Emeritus

John Pierce, PhD is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health.  Dr. Pierce is also the Moores Cancer Center Director for Population Sciences and co-leader of the Cancer Prevention program.  Dr. Pierce received his BSc from Monash University in Australia, an MSc from McMaster University in Canada and an MA and PhD from Stanford University. He has been honored for his work on tobacco by three separate professional societies including a lifetime achievement award from the joint Epidemiological Societies of North America.  His research interests are in the areas of cancer prevention, population level tobacco use, behavioral epidemiology and health behavior interventions theory.
