Transfer Major Preparation

Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is strongly recommended for all students transferring from a California Community College (CC). IGETC Certification must be sent to UC San Diego Admissions to receive credit for completion. Additionally all transfer students applying to the Public Health Program must minimumally meet all Major Transfer Preparation listed on UC San Diego Admission's Transfer Preparation site and below. That being said, we strongly advise students complete as many of the lower-division major courses as possible before entering UCSD. Preparing well for the major helps students move efficiently towards graduation. Missing a majority of the lower-division major courses could result in prolonging graduation and negatively affecting time-to-degree.

Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH)

REQUIRED Courses to Complete Prior to Transferring:

Biology (a minimum of 2 of the following courses must be completed prior to transfering):
- BILD 1 or BILD 10, BILD 2, BILD 3, BILD 12, BILD 18, BILD 20, BILD 22, BILD 26, BILD 28, BILD 30, BILD 32, BILD 36, BILD 38, BILD 44, BILD 60, BILD 61
  - Please note, a total of 3 LD Biology courses are required for the major. Transfers who complete two LD Biology courses will need to complete BILD 3 @ UCSD after transferring.
Quantitative Methods (complete 1 of the following):
- COGS 14B, HDS 60, MATH 11, or PSYC 60

PH 40 MUST be completed at UC San Diego after transferring.

BSPH with Concentration in Biostatistics

REQUIRED Courses to Complete Prior to Transferring:

Students who have completed a LD Anatomy w/ Lab and/or Microbiology w/ Lab at a Community College or another University may petition to use the course(s) towards their natural science area (must be UC transferable and be listed for units on academic history).

Note:

PH 40 MUST be completed at UC San Diego after transferring.
For PRE-MED Track: Most medical schools prefer that all pre-med courses are taken at a 4-year university after transferring from a CC. This means you should not take any remaining pre-med courses at a CC after transferring.
